|Morocco-Peru: Signature of Twinning Agreement Between Laâyoune and Pueblo Libre
A twinning agreement between the municipality of Laayoune and "Pueblo Libre" in Lima (capital of Peru), was signed Wednesday in Laayoune, with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation in several areas of common interest.
As part of the decentralized cooperation between Morocco and the Republic of Peru, this agreement was initialed by the 1st Vice-President of the Municipal Council, Mohamed Ould Errachid and the Mayor of the Peruvian municipality “Pueblo libre”, Mónica Tello López, at the headquarters of the municipality of Laâyoune, in the presence in particular of the wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate and elected officials.
According to the two parties, this agreement opens up promising prospects for the strengthening of relations of cooperation and friendship and the consolidation of partnership ties in the various sectors including the economy, tourism, the environment, culture, research science and sustainable development.
It will also offer the city of Laayoune, capital of the southern provinces of the Kingdom, international influence and partnership prospects that can contribute positively to its socio-economic development.
In a speech for the occasion, Ms. Tello López welcomed the twinning agreement between the two municipalities, which is likely to guarantee sustainable development for these two cities, welcoming the socio-economic development in Laayoune.
She also stressed that Peru wishes to benefit from Morocco’s experience and best practices in different fields, noting that the twinning agreement goes in this direction.
The mayor also indicated that the official visit made by HM King Mohammed VI in 2004 to Peru gave new impetus to bilateral relations at the political, economic, commercial and cultural levels, indicating that the Peruvian Congress set the date for the November 30 to celebrate this visit.
Likewise, the mayor of “Pueblo Libre” said that the Peruvian Congress has created a “Support and support group for the Moroccan autonomy initiative”, with a view to finding a solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. , noting that the Peruvian municipality supports this initiative.
Furthermore, Ms Tello López highlighted the role played by Morocco, which is a reliable strategic partner, as a gateway to Africa and the Middle East, noting that Peru is a gateway to the countries of the Andean region.
For his part, Mr. Ould Errachid stressed that this agreement aims to consolidate trade, cultural and tourist exchanges and to support the organization of joint activities and the exchange of visits, thus contributing to the convergence of points of view.
This convention is likely to give a strong impetus to the solidity of relations between Morocco and the countries of Latin America, in particular after a series of meetings and successful visits by delegations representing the parliaments of Central America, he said. he continued.
Morocco, due to its privileged geographical location, constitutes a gateway to Africa and the Arab world and offers the opportunity to the group of Central American countries and partners in the Republic of Peru to consolidate their political relations. and their trade with continental groupings, he continued.
Moreover, he noted that this agreement aims to enlighten public opinion in Peru on the reality of the situation in Morocco, in particular the socio-economic dynamics experienced by the southern provinces of the Kingdom, contrary to the fallacious allegations of the enemies of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
On this occasion, an institutional film highlighting the potentialities and assets of the two cities was screened.
Similarly, the members of the delegation followed a presentation on the development program of the municipality of Laâyoune covering the various development projects included in the framework of the new development model for the southern provinces launched by HM King Mohammed VI in 2015. .
The program of the Peruvian delegation includes visits to several sites, including the municipal library, the municipal women’s club, the Olympic swimming pool, the sports village and the Central Noor Laâyoune I in the commune of Dcheira.
The delegation will also visit the wastewater treatment plant and the seawater desalination plant, in addition to the African Research Institute for Sustainable Agriculture and the phosphate port in Foum El Oued.
Currently on a working visit to Morocco (from May 12 to 20), the Peruvian delegation met, previously in Rabat, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bourita and the Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and the Family, Aawatif Hayar.
