|Strong Development Momentum At All Levels In 2024 in Dakhla-Oued Eddahab

During the year that is about to end, the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, the gateway of the Kingdom of Morocco to its African depth, has witnessed a strong development momentum at all levels.

The multiple projects carried out in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, thanks to the new development model for the Southern Provinces, launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in 2015, open up promising prospects for a region that will become a leading economic and investment hub and a true regional and international center.
In the field of infrastructure, several strategic projects are progressing at a sustainable pace, most notably the Dakhla Atlantic Port, whose work rate has reached 26%. This port infrastructure aims to become a major maritime center in Africa, linking the continent to international markets.

The same applies to the seawater desalination plant in Dakhla, whose work rate has exceeded 57%. This innovative project, fully powered by wind energy, will provide an environmentally friendly solution for drinking and irrigation water supplies.

In terms of road infrastructure, the Tiznit-Dakhla highway megaproject (1,055 km), which is in its final phase and will cost around 10 billion dirhams, is an economic and social structural lever for the southern provinces of the Kingdom, especially since it will permanently strengthen economic and commercial ties between Morocco and its African heartland.

In terms of organizing major events, the city of Dakhla has consolidated its position as a preferred destination in this area, and has established itself as a high-level space for debate on issues related to the future of Africa.

Thus, during 2024, the Pearl of the South hosted several major events that brought together prominent figures from the worlds of diplomacy, economics and culture, including the 7th edition of the “Morocco Today Forum”, the African Forum for Fisheries and Aquaculture Industries “Seafood 4 Africa 2024”, and the 4th edition of the “Morocco Diplomatic-Sahara” Forum.

On the cultural side, Dakhla witnessed, during 2024, a strong dynamic within this scene, thanks to a series of cultural and artistic events, with local, national and international dimensions, including the 12th edition of the Dakhla International Festival and the 14th edition of the Regional Book and Publishing Fair.

Diplomatically, 2024 was marked by the opening of the Consulate General of the Republic of Chad, and the holding of the third session of the Morocco-Gambia Joint Cooperation Committee.

During the year that is about to end, Dakhla also received many delegations and foreign investors who visited the city to explore investment opportunities and closely monitor the development dynamics in the southern regions of the Kingdom.

The health and healthcare offer in this region was not overlooked, as it was strengthened by the opening of the Mohammed VI University of Science and Health (UM6SS), affiliated with the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, and the opening of the Dakhla International Clinic, in addition to five urban and rural health centers in the Oued Eddahab region.

In the sports field, Dakhla has strengthened its position as a global destination for various sports disciplines, by successfully hosting several competitions including the 9th edition of the “Dakhla Downwind Challenge”, the 2nd edition of the Intercontinental Cup in “Padel”, 1st edition of the National and International Competition for Sport Fishing, 14th edition of the “Kite Surfing” World Cup and the 3rd edition of “Wingfoil”. The strong development dynamics experienced by the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region reflect the tireless efforts made by all stakeholders to make it a real hub for exchange between Africa and Europe and the main gateway to Africa.
