|Laayoune Council Calls Resolution 2797 Historic Turning Point for Kingdom

UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which consolidates the autonomy plan as the only basis for resolving the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, represents a historic turning point for the Kingdom, according to the President of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra Regional Council, Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid.

In a statement to MAP, Ould Errachid emphasized that the adoption of this resolution marks the culmination of a process led under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to achieve a just and lasting solution to this long-standing regional dispute.

The UN resolution, he said, reflects international support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan and further strengthens the Kingdom’s territorial integrity. He underscored that "our brothers in the Tindouf camps are considered equal to all Moroccan citizens and are called upon to take part in the development of the Southern Provinces."

He also noted that the historic Speech delivered by the Sovereign following the adoption of this resolution took stock of the diplomatic achievements of the past fifty years and outlined the prospects for the Kingdom’s development and modernization, while reaffirming Morocco’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and unity in the region.

Furthermore, he recalled that the Sovereign extended an invitation to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for a fraternal and sincere dialogue between Morocco and Algeria, with a view to building a united and prosperous Maghreb that meets the aspirations of its peoples.

The President of the Regional Council concluded that this historic decision by the United Nations grants Morocco enhanced legitimacy and opens new horizons for stability, prosperity, and progress in the southern provinces, highlighting the values of justice, peace, and dialogue upheld by the Kingdom.
