|Gabon Opens Consulate General in Laayoune

The Republic of Gabon opened Friday a consulate general in Laayoune.

The opening ceremony of the consulate was chaired by minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Gabonese counterpart, Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze.

This is the third diplomatic representation inaugurated in Laayoune, after the honorary consulate of Côte d'Ivoire, which opened last June, and the consulate general of the Union of the Comoros, which started providing its services in December.

The opening ceremony of this Gabonese consulate took place in the presence of wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of the province of Laayoune Abdeslem Bekrate, of governor of the province of Boujdour Brahim Benbrahi, of Governor of the province of Tarfaya Mohamed Hamim, as well as the Consul General of the Republic of the Union of the Comoros in Laayoune Sayed Omar Sayed Hassan.

Bourita had presided, few hours earlier in Dakhla with his Guinean counterpart, the opening ceremony of the consulate of the Republic of Guinea, the second hosted by this city after that of The Gambia.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad announced last December that at least 4 African countries will open consulates in Laayoune before the end of 2020.

He added that the cities of Laayoune and Dakhla will have a total of ten diplomatic representations by the end of the current year.
