|The Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs Part of Significant Moroccan Delegation Participating in the Regional Conference of the Committee of 24

A significant Moroccan delegation is participating in the Regional Conference of the Committee of 24 of the United Nations, scheduled to be held from May 21 to 23 in Dili, East Timor.

The Moroccan delegation is headed by Ambassador Omar Hilale, Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations in New York, and His Majesty's Ambassador in Jakarta, Radouane El Houssaini. The delegation also includes several officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, as well as the Vice-President of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs.

This conference will provide an opportunity for the Moroccan delegation to update the members of the Committee and other participants on the latest developments in the Moroccan Sahara issue, particularly the growing international support for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, which has now received the support of more than 117 countries, representing over 60 percent of UN member states.

The Moroccan delegation will also highlight the growing international support for the recognition of Moroccan Sahara, with several countries affirming their positions, including two permanent members of the UN Security Council, France and the United States, which draft the Council's resolutions on the Moroccan Sahara issue.

It will also highlight the tangible progress made in the southern provinces thanks to the new development model launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in 2015, with a budget exceeding $10 billion, and whose implementation rate has reached advanced levels.

This conference will also be an opportunity for the Moroccan delegation to recall Algeria's unwavering responsibility for the continuation of this conflict, by highlighting its historical and political role as a concerned party, as affirmed by Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2756, adopted in October 2024.

Two elected officials from the Moroccan Sahara will also participate in this conference: Ms. Ghala Bahia from the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region and Mr. Mhamed Abba from the Laayoune-Saguia El Hamra region, at the invitation of the Chairperson of the Committee.
