The Department of Youth and Sports has accompanied the development of the Sahara region since its recovery by the motherland, the Kingdom of Morocco, by providing frameworks and animations and conducting necessary facilities for youth.

These facilities were almost non-existent in urban areas and totally lacking in peri-urban areas and rural areas of the Sahara region.

The department in charge of Youth and Sports has played an important role in the development of the sector through several sporting, educational and cultural  achievements for Sahrawi children and youth, as well as a participatory approach involving both educational training, sports and local population. This approach has allowed the emergence of an intellectual and sport elite who represented the Kingdom of Morocco in several events and competitions organized at the national and international levels.

Like the actions taken throughout the kingdom, meetings and training sessions are regularly held with Saharawi young people in youth spaces. These sessions are designed to develop a sporting spirit to enable young people to participate in the building of a Moroccan responsible, open and compact society based upon national and international values of citizenship.

These spaces are also frequented by non-governmental associations, which are also involved in the supervision of young people as part of the national initiative for Human Development (INDH).

As elsewhere in the Kingdom, several animation programs are organized annually in the Sahara region for young people including:

• theatre Workshops
• Music courses
• film Workshops
• Painting Workshops
• Annual Program 'holidays for all'
