Support for Morocco's autonomy plan in the Sahara, presented by the Kingdom in April 2007 to achieve a final settlement of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, was widely echoed during the closed-door UN Security Council meeting held on Wednesday.

The UN Security Council will hold, this Wednesday in New York, its semi-annual closed-door consultations meeting on the Moroccan Sahara issue, with the participation of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, and the Special Representative for the Sahara and head of MINURSO, Alexander Ivanko.

Spain's new position on the Moroccan Sahara has "pulverized" the "nicely woven and conspiracy-based" narrative used by some Spanish media hostile to Morocco, said strategic studies expert Lahcen Haddad.

Algeria is "a serial violator" of human rights and international humanitarian law, said Omar Kadiri, Morocco's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, before the UN Security Council, in response to the Algerian delegation's lies and fallacious allegations about alleged violations of human rights in the Moroccan Sahara.

By abandoning its "historical" position of neutrality on its former colony, the Sahara, "Spain responds positively to the logical and practical evidence of geographical determinism, the imperative of political realism of Spanish-Moroccan relations, condemned to be benevolent by history and geography," said the director general of the African Center for Strategic Intelligence (CISPaix), Dr. Abdoul Latif Aidara.
