The US decision to recognize Morocco's full sovereignty over its Sahara should provide a strong impetus to efforts to find a solution to the Sahara issue under the Moroccan autonomy plan, said Erik Jensen, Former head of MINURSO mission.

The artificial dispute over the Sahara is a question of Moroccan territorial integrity and not of decolonization, said representatives of several United Nations member states, on the occasion of a virtual side-event to mark the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the historic resolution 1514 of the General Assembly, also known as the "Declaration on the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples".
