|Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra: CRDH Holds 6th Ordinary Meeting

The Regional Commission for Human Rights (CRDH) of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra held, Saturday at the town of El Marssa, its 6th ordinary meeting, devoted to the presentation of its action report for the year 2022.

This meeting, which takes place in accordance with the provisions of Law 76.15 on the reorganization of the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) and Article 36 of its rules of procedure, was an opportunity to discuss issues relating to different areas related to human rights regionally.
On the agenda of this ordinary meeting were the presentation and examination of the annual report of the CRDH in 2022 and reports of the three standing committees of the said Commission namely the standing committee in charge of the protection of human rights, standing committee in charge of the promotion of human rights and the standing committee in charge of the follow-up and evaluation of the effectiveness of human rights in regional policies and programs.

On this occasion, emphasis was placed on the interventions of the CRDH in the region concerning the reinforcement of categorical rights, reception and treatment of complaints and the spontaneous follow-up of possible human rights violations.

A total of 90 complaints and requests were received by CRDH, said the annual report of the Commission, noting that the Permanent Commission for the Protection of Human Rights has processed 63 complaints or 70% of those filed.

CRDH Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra has ensured full implementation of its missions, receiving some 260 users, it says.

Regarding the promotion of economic, social, cultural and environmental rights, the CRDH organized a series of awareness-raising activities related to cultural rights (5 activities), environmental rights (5), right to development (3), right to education (13), categorical rights (7) and the rights of migrants (5), as well as an activity related to the right of workers, according to the report.

In an address, the Chairman of the Regional Commission on Human Rights, Taoufik Berdiji stressed that this meeting has a special character, in that it reflects the willingness of the CRDH to continue its actions after the pandemic Covid-19.

In this regard, Mr. Berdiji welcomed the efforts made by the members of the Commission to accompany the action of the standing committees of the CRDH in an optimal way, in terms of protection and strengthening of human rights, as well as in terms of monitoring the effectiveness of rights in public policies and regional programs.

CRDH will continue to fully assume its missions by strengthening the fight against all forms of human rights violations and organizing activities to promote the culture of human rights, in accordance with the strategic guidelines of CNDH and specificities of the region, he assured.
