|Independence Manifesto Day: Historical Event of the National Struggle

The Moroccan people and the family of the national movement, resistance and Liberation Army celebrate, on Wednesday, the 79th anniversary of the presentation of the Independence Manifesto, a historic event marking the struggle to recover freedom and independence, national sovereignty and complete the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

This anniversary, which appeals to the younger generations because of its profound meanings, symbolizes the high values of national awakening and the strong symbiosis between the Throne and the people to defend the constants of the nation and to look forward to the future with confidence and serenity.
It provides an opportunity to pay tribute to the men of the national resistance and members of the Liberation Army who sacrificed themselves to liberate the homeland from the yoke of colonialism and preserve the dignity and pride of the Moroccan people.

The Independence Manifesto included a set of political demands, including those related to the general policy and which provide, among others, the independence of Morocco under the rule of the legitimate Sovereign of the Kingdom Sidi Mohammed Ben Youssef and the accession of Morocco to the Atlantic club. The second part of the claims concerns the internal policy embodied by the determination of the Sultan to lead a broad dynamic of reforms, supported by a political system of Shura similar to that of the Arab and Islamic countries in order to preserve the rights and duties of all Moroccan society.

This glorious anniversary refers to the history of Moroccan resistance over the centuries where the Kingdom was able to fight with strength, determination, courage and heroism all the expansionist lusts that ended up dividing the country into colonial zones with the French protectorate in the center, the Spanish occupation in the north and south and the maintenance of the city of Tangier under an international regime. This fragmentation of the territory made the mission of the national movement difficult, giving rise to a long and bitter struggle of the Throne and the people. This period was marked by sacrifices and decisive events, including the uprising against the segregation dahir known as the "Berber dahir" of 1930, the presentation to the French government of a reform plan (1934 and 1936), and then the presentation of the Manifesto of Independence on January 11, 1944.

During these different stages, the father of the Nation, the late HM Mohammed V, never ceased to keep alive the flame of the Moroccans' resistance and to direct its objectives since his accession to the Throne of his glorious ancestors on November 18, 1927. The late Sovereign has indeed embodied the values of resistance and patriotism in his noble actions and his historical mobilizing speeches inciting the Moroccan people to strengthen their attachment to the constants of the nation and to preserve their identity.

This event was the trigger for a new dynamic in the political process leading to the liberation of the Kingdom insofar as it instilled more courage and determination in the actors of the national movement to claim more rights up to the claim of independence. This momentum of mobilization and fervor led to the emergence of a national awakening inspired and guided by the leadership of the late HM Mohammed V which gave rise to the Manifesto of Independence, enriched and nourished by the foresight of the late Sovereign and in which all the sensitivities and living forces of the nation are represented.

This historical Manifesto was a real national revolution reflecting the patriotism of all Moroccans and their spirit of sacrifice and mobilization. It is the concrete proof of the awakening of a people capable of taking its destiny in hand and continuing its march of liberation and progress in a perfect symbiosis with the glorious Alaouite Throne.

For the High Commission of former resistance fighters and former members of the Liberation Army, the family of the national movement For the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army, the family of the national movement, the resistance and the Liberation Army, which remembers with pride this national epic rich in lessons, reiterates its unwavering support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and the Moroccanity of the southern provinces and its constant mobilization to counter the maneuvers hatched by opponents and the dangers that threaten the sovereignty of Morocco on its territory and can not accommodate conspiracy or bargaining.

The Kingdom, adds the High Commission in a statement, "will remain committed to the cordial ties of cooperation and good neighborliness that unite it to its Maghreb space in order to build this regional edifice and achieve the aspirations of its peoples to unity and shared prosperity, convinced of the need to find a peaceful, realistic and negotiated solution to put an end once and for all to the artificial conflict around our southern provinces", through the initiative of broad autonomy within the framework of the Moroccan sovereignty.

This is the spirit that emerges from the speech of HM King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the glorious Green March in which the Sovereign said: "We celebrate this year the forty-seventh anniversary of the Green March at a time when the process of consolidating the Moroccanity of the Sahara has entered a crucial phase.

The Sovereign added: "In its time, this glorious event allowed the liberation of the land. Henceforth, the marches we are leading without respite are intended to provide Moroccan citizens with the conditions for a dignified life, especially in these territories that We cherish so much," noting that throughout history, the Moroccan Sahara has constantly constituted a link between Morocco and its African depths on the human, cultural and economic levels.

Also, added HM the King, "the development effort that We are leading in the Sahara allows us to consolidate this historical role in a firm and sustainable manner and, beyond, to place it in a perspective resolutely turned towards the future", stressing that "this orientation is fundamentally in line with the very nature of the privileged relations uniting Morocco to the rest of the African countries, which We have at heart to develop, in the best interests of our brotherly peoples".

Fidelity to the spirit and the eternal oath of the Green March, said the Sovereign, "requires that all Moroccans remain mobilized and vigilant in order to defend the national unity of their country, to promote its full development and to strengthen its attachment to its African depth.

The celebration of the anniversary of the presentation of the Manifesto of Independence will be marked by a meeting, Wednesday morning, of the High Commission for former resistance fighters and former members of the liberation army within the national space of preservation of the memory of the resistance.

Other commemorative events will be organized by the various regional delegations of the High Commission in coordination with ministerial departments, public institutions, elected assemblies and civil society throughout the month of January.
