|Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Malawi Hails Development Momentum in Laayoune

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Malawi, Catherine Gotani Hara, hailed, Friday in Laayoune, the socio-economic achievements and the development momentum in the capital of the Moroccan Sahara.

This development momentum will improve the quality of life and provide ample opportunities for local people, said Ms. Gotani Hara, during a meeting with the President of the City Council, Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid.
Ms. Gotani Hara, who is on an official visit to the Kingdom at the head of a large parliamentary delegation, also welcomed the quality of infrastructure and investment implemented in Laayoune, saying he was "impressed" by the quality of projects carried out in this city in the Moroccan Sahara.

For his part, Hamdi Ouled Errachid stressed, in a statement to the press, that this visit was an opportunity for the delegation of parliamentarians from Malawi to see firsthand the efforts made to strengthen the basic infrastructure in the region, in addition to the measures taken by the state to provide a new impetus for development through the new development model of the southern provinces.

He welcomed the rate of progress of 90% that show the work of projects designed under this new development model in the region of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra.

On this occasion, members of the delegation were informed of the various development projects underway in Laayoune registered under the new Development Model for the Southern Provinces launched by HM King Mohammed VI in 2015.

The parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Malawi visited the Consulate General of Malawi in Laayoune and the large-scale projects completed and those underway to learn about the quality of educational, sports, socio-economic and health infrastructure as part of the development model of the southern provinces.

These are projects relating to the construction of the Hospital and University Center, the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, the City of trades and skills, the sports village and the media library. Earlier in the day, the parliamentary delegation of Malawi held a meeting with the wali of the region Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, during which emphasis was placed on the development boom that the region is experiencing in various fields.
