|CORCAS Head Meets With Delegation from the Senate of the Republic of Uruguay

The chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid, received on Monday, a delegation of senators of the Republic of Uruguay, in the context of a working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco from 18 to 25 February 2023.

During the talks that took place at the headquarters of the Council in Rabat, in the presence of the Secretary General, Dr. Maoulainaine Ben Khalihenna Maoulainaine , and Mr. Moulay Ahmed Mghizelat, CORCAS member, Mr. Khalihenna spoke with the Uruguayan delegation about the latest developments in the Sahara issue.
After reviewing the history of the conflict in the context of the Cold War, CORCAS chief highlighted the importance of the Moroccan solution to a fair and practical political settlement represented in a project to grant expanded autonomy to the Moroccan Sahara region, noting that the text of this project was drawn up by Sahrawis, through the institution of the Council that brings together all the Sahrawi tribes. . After that, the Kingdom presented it to the United Nations in 2007 as a brave and just initiative to break the stalemate that the conflict has known for decades.

Mr. Khalihenna pointed out that this initiative currently enjoys almost complete support from the international community, especially during the past two years, when the support of the Member States of the United Nations has increased. Therefore, autonomy constitutes the only basis for resolving the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

The program of the visit of the Senate delegation includes strengthening bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Uruguay, coordination and consultation on issues and topics of common interest to serve the interests of the two countries.
