|Third International Camel Racing Festival, Sakia El Hamra October 28-30 in Smara

October 28 through 30, in the Sidi Ahmed Laroussi community in Smara, the Moroccan Camel Racing Federation is organizing the activities of the third edition of the Saguia El Hamra International Camel Racing Festival, in commemoration of the forty-eighth anniversary of the Green March Day.

The organizers named this tournament, which is held under the slogan “Cultural Heritage in the Service of Development,” in partnership with the Smara Camel Racing Club and in coordination with the General Federation of Camel Racing in Morocco, the “Course of the Late Moulay Khairi El Wali.”
A statement from the organizers stated that the holding of this session comes to dedicate the cultural radiance of the international festival, which is an important station on the map of heritage and cultural festivals organized by the Moroccan Camel Racing Federation, and with the aim of highlighting its role as an intangible heritage that must be preserved, as it is one of the components of an integrated system of economic and social development, which seeks to ensure continuit sustaining cultural action and supporting and encouraging creativity and creators.

Through this festival, organizers aspire to preserve authentic Arab traditions, preserve the common heritage, support the cultural heritage of nomadic Bedouins, encourage camel owners in Morocco to acquire purebred camel breeds, and expand the practice and sustainability of traditional sports in general, and camel racing in particular. As an authentic and ancient Arab sport that is passed down from generation to generation.

This session will witness the participation of 10 Arab countries, including the State of Qatar, Kuwait, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mauritania, Libya, Tunisia and Palestine.

The program of this session includes organizing artistic performances in camel racing, camel handball championship, human-riding camel race, Sarha and Marwah International Marathon, and competition for the best dairy camel and the best breed, in addition to organizing a scientific symposium on camels with the participation of professors, researchers, experts and specialists in the field of camels.
