|Corcas Chairman Meets Colombian Senate Delegation

The Chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, Khalihenna Ould Errachid, held talks today, Monday December 04, 2023, with a delegation from the Colombian Senate on a working visit to the Kingdom from December 03-09, 2023.

CORCAS head spoke with his Colombian hosts about the latest developments in the Moroccan Sahara at UN level, and revitalization of the political process sparked by the Moroccan initiative granting broad autonomy to the region.
The chairman recalled the stages in the implementation of the autonomy plan and consultations carried out with local populations, as well as the consultations on various autonomy projects around the world. He went on to point out that the autonomy plan has been hailed by all Security Council resolutions, since Morocco presented the text to the Security Council in 2007, as a serious and credible solution.

The visit comes following a new motion by the Colombian Senate giving unequivocal support to Morocco's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

In a statement to MAP following his meeting with CORCAS chief, German Blanco Alvarez explained that "it is not possible to recognize what does not exist in the international context", reiterating the Senate's rejection of this policy.

The president of the Colombia/Morocco friendship group in the Colombian Senate recalled in this respect that the approval of the Colombian Senate's motion last week, which unequivocally supports Morocco's territorial integrity and sovereignty over its Sahara, by an overwhelming majority of 65 out of 105 members.

He added that the Colombian government's attempt to diplomatically recognize a "secessionist and terrorist" group that is not recognized by the United Nations is a "matter of concern" for the Colombian Senate and Foreign Relations Commission, stressing that the Colombian Senate delegation's visit to the Kingdom aims to formally express this position.

The meeting was attended by CORCAS Secretary General Dr. Maouelainin Ben Khallihenna Maouelainin, and CORCAS member Ahmed Mghizlat.
