|Polisario Destabilizing Factor in the Entire North African Region, says Chilean HR Organization
The Chilean Human Rights Without Borders Foundation has strongly condemned the grave human rights violations committed by the Polisario in the Tindouf camps in Algeria, considering the separatist front a destabilizing factor in the entire North African region.
The Chilean human rights organization said, in a communiqué received by MAP - Buenos Aires, that most of the Polisario leaders are prosecuted by international justice for serious human rights violations, denouncing the detention of Sahrawis in inhumane conditions and without the most basic conditions for a decent life.
The same source added that the "Human Rights Without Borders Foundation" has witnessed for two years the grave human rights violations committed by Polisario with the blessing of Algeria, the incubator of the separatists on its territory, noting that it has monitored and documented these serious violations through many testimonies, which were reviewed this week in Santiago, Chile, within the framework of the second edition of the International Meeting of Human Rights Defenders (IHRD)
.
In its statement, the human rights organization denounced these reported violations before international justice, which include abductions of hundreds of Sahrawis, arbitrary detention without any trial, as well as the military recruitment of minors, which has been condemned by the United Nations.
The Chilean organization demanded, as many international human rights organizations do in their annual reports, the immediate release of all politicians detained by the Polisario Front in Algerian territory, the disclosure of the fate of hundreds of missing persons, and the punishment of those involved in the rape of Sahrawi women and violation of their rights.
The Foundation for Human Rights Without Borders stressed that Polisario and Algeria are required to heed the calls of the international community to resolve the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara through an autonomy plan that grants the Sahrawis political, economic, administrative and judicial autonomy, a Moroccan initiative that enjoys the support of the vast majority of the world's countries.
As for the human rights situation in Algeria, the human rights organization noted that the country is still mired in its painful past without compensating any victim. In addition, in recent years, arrests and extremely harsh sentences have been reported against journalists, social media activists, human rights defenders and political opponents.
"Algeria has ended up with a repressive regime controlled and guided by the military who have completely distanced themselves from the original project that sought to promote the independence of this country," she said, noting that "the national liberation process was not only betrayed, but ended up being transformed into a military regime much like the dictatorships we have known in Latin America."
