The Sahara region has benefited from the work of several agencies and departments created since 1980 to ensure the development of the living conditions of the disabled, women and children. 

The interest accorded to the Sahara region has been strengthened through partnership with local associations working in the social field, and through a number of support and monitoring initiatives as shown by the following data:


Support to local NGOs

Since 1998-2002: The amount allocated to the associations is one (1) one million MAD to support programs of the social integration of Disabled Persons on behalf of (10) associations;

2003 -2006: 80 associations have received an amount of 5.524.500.00 Million MAD to strengthen programs of social integration of people with disabilities and promotion of the status of women and children;

Organization of three training sessions for the benefit of 40 managers belonging to associations in the city of Laayoune.

 

Grants and technical equipment

  • 1660 units of technical and orthopaedic aids for the benefit of the poor disabled;
  •  Creation of a functional rehabilitation center in partnership with the Ministry of Health;
  • Contributing to the association center "leader of the march green" in Dakhla;
  • Contribution to the setting up of the "Lalla Hassna" institute for Disabled people in the city of Laayoune.

 


Participation in national events and meetings
 

  • In 2001: participation of 40 children in the activities of the national children meeting for Peace;
  • Participation in the activities of 4 editions of the national festival of children with special needs (2004 - 2005- 2006-2007);
  • Creation of the Municipal Council of Children (CME) in Laayoune in 2006.


Education

  • Creation of 6 integrated classes in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Manager Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research;
  •  Equipment of integrated classrooms by teaching tools for the education of children with special needs.
