Spokesperson for the United Nations, Michele Montas said the UNSG Personal Envoy for the Sahara, Peter van Walsum has the capacity as UN facilitator, to present suggestions to get the 32-year-old Sahara issue out of the current impasse.


  Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sahara, Peter Van Walsum, said on Monday, calling on the 15 members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to recommend to the parties involved in the dispute to resume negotiations and take into account the political and international reality.


The Interior Minister, Mr. Chakib Benmoussa and Minister of Housing, Urban Development and Spatial Planning, Mr. Ahmed Toufiq Hjira kicked-off on Saturday the distribution of the first phase of land plots earmarked for the inhabitants of Al-Wahda camps and needy families under the new housing programme in the city of Laayoune.


Visiting French Prime minister François Fillon reiterated, here Thursday, France's support to the Moroccan proposal to grant substantial autonomy to its southern provinces -the Sahara.


 Morocco shares the view of the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, that only realism, and the spirit of compromise can allow negotiations to solve the 32-year old dispute over the Sahara to succeed, said a communiqué of Morocco's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, issued on Wednesday in New York.
