The British government on Thursday reaffirmed its support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco as the most credible, viable, and pragmatic basis for a lasting solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

A group of Moroccan and international experts and academics examined models of autonomy and regionalization in comparative experiences, as well as their role in regional development, last Wednesday in Dakhla. The discussions took place during an international symposium that highlighted various forms of decentralization in public governance.

“Concrete measures must be taken to protect women in conflict zones”

During the 43rd plenary session of the general debate of the 61st session of the Human Rights Council, held on March 24 in Geneva, Ms. Saadani Maalainin, a member of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS) and NGO OCAPROCE International, called for concrete measures to protect women in conflict zones.

The Republic of Costa Rica considered on Friday the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco "the most appropriate, serious, credible, and realistic basis for reaching a political solution," asserting that "autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty could be the most feasible solution for resolving" the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

At the 95th session of the UNHCR Standing Committee in Geneva, Morocco called for a meaningful shift in the way refugee situations are managed across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, stressing that humanitarian assistance should serve as a pathway toward long-term solutions rather than an end in itself.
